Unix Administration Experience

 

 

 

Three years experience administering a Linux machine at home; experience includes work with Redhat and Slackware distributions, Caldera, Applix, and various freeware applications, X Windows, and FVWM. Assisting in and performing administrative tasks involving configuring and compiling system software, adding user accounts, and analyzing system security.

 

Internet and Other Network-Related Experience

 

 

 

Seven years experience with the Internet, including operating at the user level within various networked operating systems: VAX/VMS, SunOS, Ultrix, Linux, Irix, Windows for Workgroups, Windows NT, and Mac OS. Extensive experience with the World Wide Web, e-mail, PGP, FTP, telnet, HTML development, and numerous other technologies and protocols. Twelve years experience in other networked environments, particularly local computer bulletin board systems, Q-link and Prodigy.

 

Hardware Experience

 

 

Hardware experience involving constructing machines from PC-based hardware, as well as troubleshooting hardware-related problems in Macintoshes and PCs.

 

Other System Management Experience

 

 

Two years as a co-sysadmin for a computer bulletin board system; tasks involved troubleshooting within the bulletin board software (WWIV bbs), assisting users, creating user accounts and evaluating potential security issues.

Implement and troubleshoot software on remote UNIX server. Maintain the web and mail servers running WebStar 3.1 and EIMS 2.0, respectively. Assist users with Mac applications, file sharing, and Internet use. Analyze developments in Internet technologies for the purpose of developing policy recommendations for the organization. Handle logistics for conferences, mass mailings, and book sales. Design and maintain the EPIC Trust database.

Freelance work for various production companies in the Baltimore metropolitan area including Event Tech, Jericho Custom Sound, Killowatt Crew Lighting, South Carroll High School, The Funnel, and the 8 x 10. Work experience as a freelancer has included stage management, front-of-house audio engineering for concerts, PA system and electrical troubleshooting, operation of audio/visual equipment, stagehanding, rigging, and lighting design

Hired, trained, and supervised staff, and managed payroll for as many as 30 student employees. Worked with clients, assisted students, and did production work for the department, including audio engineering, lighting, rigging, and scoreboard maintenance and programming.
