TUX.ORG, INC.  Board of Directors (BoD) Recent History
The following is a summary of activity of Tux.Org, Inc BoD for 2005 as submitted by current President Pete Nuwayser and for 2004 as submitted by then-President Megan Larko (These do not necessarily reflect the opinion of any other Tux.Org, Inc. Director).

BoD Summary -- 2006
What did the Tux.Org,Inc Board of Directors (BoD) do in 2006? Good question! The BoD did some major internal organizing and neatening of its own affairs to wit: The Tux.Org,Inc. ByLaws were completely and thoroughly reviewed with the most-capable assistance of Julia Christiansen and our attorney Mr. John Richard, Esq. The result is that the newly-adopted ByLaws more accurately reflect the operational structure of the BoD in that, for example, meetings may now legitimately be conducted via electronic chat sessions with the minutes being saved into a log file. We BoD members has used the convenience of that for a while, but we needed to ammend our own ByLaws to make that particular electronic method a recognizable, binding BoD meeting format. The BoD also ammended the ByLaws to allow for email meeting notification which previously was not "official". Term Limits were added to the BoD director positions effective 1 January 2007 and not retroactive. The goal here was not to oust anyone on the BoD, but to allow for new blood on the Board and to allow Board members a graceful easy out while still permitting their return after a leave time of one calendar year. We certainly wish to avoid becoming stodgy and stuffy! There were other minor changes made to the Tux.Org,Inc. ByLaws to come into better compliance with regulations for 501(c)(3) educational non-profit organizations. The newly-adopted ByLaws will be available on-line here soon. Similarly a "conflict of interest/ethics document" suggested to us by our counsel is under consideration for adoption soon (post-Tech Caucus and FOSE timeframe).

Other BoD activity in 2006 includes the organization of the 15th birthday of Linux picnic held in Virginia this year. Participation in FOSE in March 2006 and in LISA in December 2006 and preparation for Tuxes first-ever representation at the Congressional Internet Caucus on Capitol Hill in January 2007.

In addition to strengthening the BoD connection with the hard-working System Administrators who maintain the Tux.Org,Inc computers at their varying locations, current BoD President Pete Nuwayser has stated the following among his goals for the Board in 2007:

Goals for the 2007 BoD

  • Inside DC, we want to increase Tux.Org,Inc educational outreach by having a local presence at more shows. In 2006 Tux.Org,Inc. participated in FOSE and USENIXs LISA conferences, and later this month we have agreed to present information at a show on Capitol Hill.
  • Outside DC, we want to increase our networking "web" LUG-to-LUG. Pete has some ideas on how and why we might do this.
  • Establish better communication with our volunteer SysAdmins and aid in revamping our servers and services and could always use help with architecture and sysadmin tasks.
BoD Summary -- 2005
In February the Tux.Org, Inc. Board of Directors (BoD) elected two new board members. Please view the election info web page for details.

In March we had our best FOSE ever --- great floor location; coordination with Linux Magazine's "Linux Solutions Government" pavilion; lots of help from Linux Journal and Ubuntu.  Gave away about 2,000 KNOPPIX, Ubuntu and Fedora CDs and other goodies.  One sad note:  we had always worked with Lois Rude of PostNewsweekTech in coordinating the booth, relations with other vendors and logistics.  FOSE 2005 was Lois's last FOSE.  We are sad to see her go and we thank her for all of her time and incredible help over the years.  Thanks to everyone who contributed time, muscle, cars or funds!  See you at the next FOSE March 7-9 2006!

In April the BoD held a face-to-face meeting in Tyson's Corner, reassigned some Board positions and established monthly IRC meetings.

Over the summer Nicholas Brenckle ("Nick Danger") was chosen to run logistics for FOSE 2006.

In September we held a face-to-face meeting at our bank and updated our records there.

BoD Summary -- 2004
The year 2004 was not especially busy for Tux.Org, Inc. As part of fulfilling the educational goal of promoting linux and open source software awareness and usage in the business, educational, government and home communities, Tux.Org, Inc. has sponsored installfests/tweakfests in the Northern Virginia area. With thanks to Mr. Tim Bogart Tux.Org, Inc. has had a presence at the Federal Operating Systems Exposition (FOSE) again this past year to educate government workers about linux and have distributed thousands (thanks Mr. Chuck Moss and others) of KNOPPIX live CDs at the FOSE event.

Tux.Org, Inc. has been working to maintain and upgrade the gwyn web server as well as obtaining some additional capabilities with a new machine at Atlantech OnLine via an arrangement brokered by Mr. David Lesher (via a FOSE '04 contact). Mr. Greg Pryzby, president and founder of NoVALUG, organized an effort to promote firefox use and awareness by participating in a Mozilla.Org firefox PR event with the contributions of other LUGgers.
