| Currently a Systems Administrator for
Center for Research on Environment & Water M. Larko will be working on the WaterNet
and WECHO projects using linux to create and manage a large data base of hydrological data for use
by government, research organizations and educational facilities to better understand
and manage Earths' water resources. Formerly a Systems Administrator for the Hydrological
Sciences Branch (Code 614.3) at NASAs Goddard Space Flight Center, she worked
with both generic and custom linux systems. Strongly believes in the
Open Source concept since it has enabled her to modify computing systems
to better suit the needs of the scientific researchers whom she serves.
Has volunteered at various Install- and Tweakfests, participated in
linux education at the Federal Operating Systems Expo (FOSE),
participates on on-line LUG forums, presented at LUG meetings, served as past
Treasurer and President of Tux.Org.

| Executive Director - Rich
Goodwin |
| I am professionally a Program Manager with a Systems
Engineering/Architect background (over 23 years of experience). My
initial introduction to UNIX was using AT&T UNIX System 7 on a
PDP-11
system and with Microsoft XENIX on an IBM XT-based PC in 1984. I
recently designed an LDAP Directory Server that supports PKI
authentication and access control for intra- and extranets using
SSL-based communications and X.509 certificates. The directory
development effort targeted C/C++/Java web-based applications and
servlets for authentication and reliable data. I have implemented
development effort targeted C/C++/Java web-based applications and
servlets for authentication and reliable data. I have implemented
secure data networks and communications and supported large
communications and system development projects in a tactical
environment. I have experience with extensive real-time databases;
identifying requirements, providing analysis, design, supporting
security accreditation and configuration management.
I@~Yve been involved
in defining organizational standards and processes in a Systems
Engineering role.
In a previous position, I was responsible for
concentrating on
Enterprise Management-oriented Business Partner relationships such as
Remedy, Tivoli and BMC, MicroMuse, and HP. In the Tivoli Business
Partner training, I underwent 2 weeks of intense training on all the
Tivoli TME 10 products and spent a 3rd week designing and implementing
a
case study solution across a heterogeneous network to solve a realistic
business solution. A key element of the Tivoli and BMC work included
scripting enterprise needs into the corporate Enterprise Management
system.
s a Systems/Network Administration (Ethernet/FDDI/ATM
based), I
provided operational support analysis, performed network performance
modeling; was the technical lead for deploying applications; developed
distinct sets of shells, awk and PERL scripts/utilities to migrate user
data into products available via the web. One set of shell and awk
scripts reduced an effort from over 45 days to less than 3 minutes. I
integrated products in a test bed consisting of UNIX-based SPARC, SGI
and Macintosh systems using commercial products, customer generated
products and free-ware packages into the network to fulfill the mission
needs, wrote utilities, optimized system parameters to increase user
friendliness and worked with organizations to install external
connections.
I was an active participant in on-site testing for
Operational
Evaluation Testing of a large communications system by providing C and
UNIX shells for analysis aids, on-site UNIX and system training. I
initiated a UNIX Users group for the users to
help them better
understand UNIX and how users could function more independently.
As a UNIX admin, I worked with various UNIX variants. I have been
working with Linux since the 1.3 kernel and currently use Red Hat's
Fedora Core 3 and SuSe 9.2 at home.
To support the Linux community, I provided talks on LDAP
and video
editing at the Northern Virginia Linux User Group (NOVALUG) and
supported tux.org at FOSE. I give talks at a local grammar school on
building computers. To get 6-8th graders to think out of the box, I am
building a Lubic kit for a system that resembles an airplane. The OS
will be Linux based with an emphasis on educational software
appropriate
for grammar school. I am evaluating KNOPPIX and Skolelinux for the OS.
My interests for tux.org would be on the educational and SOHO
distributions. Establishing Linux as a desirable platform for children
and teachers is something I am currently working at one school. I would
like to take this further and apply similar tactics for the small
offices which could benefit dramatically from a LINUX infrastructure.

Officer - David Cafaro
|
|
David Cafaro is currently employed at Georgetown University's Advanced Research Computing group where he supports computational research needs through the use of Linux and OpenSource technologies. Previously he has worked as a Security Analyst at Tresys Technology with a focus on SELinux policy work. In his spare time he is currently acting as the Security Track Chair for LinuxWorld Boston 2006 conference were he is trying to provide a robust session track covering a full range of OpenSource security issues for conference attendees. David was also the Chair of the Columbia Area Linux Users Group (CALUG) in Maryland from 2002-2005, leaving the position after moving to Virginia late 2005. Previously to moving to Maryland, David was a member of the Triangle Linux Users Group (TRILUG) in RTP, NC.

Officer - Doug Toppin
|
|
Doug has been in software systems design and development professionally since 1979. In that time he has held numerous positions/roles involved in software including design, development, field support, project and personnel management, both in defense and commercial applications. His Unix experience began around 1988 with IBM Xenix and eventually evolved into Linux a number of years ago. He prefers to use Linux whenever possible and tries to help others use it more effectively in their needs as well.
