One trend will be an increase in the number of applications that are self-patching; enabling vendors to distribute security-critical bug fixes quickly and automatically. The other trend, which is interdependent with the first, will be a reduction in the number of vulnerability disclosures made for personal or commercial marketing purposes before a correction is available. I believe that the user community is getting sick of people trying to make a reputation by releasing damaging information, and that will further tend to reduce the rate of such disclosures."
