Driving notes for VIR full course This is a fast course. Bring lots of gas. Pit-out is blind. Watch your left mirror carefully on the way out. Keep left down the straight into the braking zone for turn 1. Shift down to third. Start braking about the 500' marker. Turn in right. The apex is late and we are going to hold the car into right side of track. If you don't the track will come back to you, like turn 1 at SP, but this is how the locals do it. Point the car at the apex of the kink ahead of you. Here I can shift up to 4th or hold it at the redline in 3rd until the braking zone for "NASCAR bend". Brake moderately and turn in left. Clip the apex and power on. Track out all the way right. Stay on the power until the braking zone for "left hook". Brake hard. This one is slower than it looks. Clip the apex late and apply a little power. Only track out to the middle of the track. I found that if you are early here, if you bang the curb hard enough it will rotate the car around into something that resembles the right attitude. As soon as the car settles, turn in right, clip the apex late and apply enough power to drift the car around, but only enough to do that. There is a depression or dip at the track out on the left. If you did this right the car should be pointed down the track. The esses are pretty much a straight away. Shift up to 4th and drive over the curbs. Check mirrors and point cars by on the right. Keep right under the bridge. Near the end of the edge between connector road and the main track turn in left for the first kink of the "climbing esses" . Clip the late apex on the concrete curb on the left. When the car settles turn in right for the middle of the concrete curb on the right. When the car settles turn in right for an early apex on the concrete curb. Stay right. All this can be done flat out in my car but it is REALLY HAIRY. The car gets real floaty in 2 places and if you are not on the right line you will go off in a big way as this section is FAST. From the right side of the road stay on the gas until you can see the apex of "south bend". Brake slightly, turn in left and squeeze the power on. This would not be a good place to lift. From the apex of south bend I drive straight to the turn in for 1st apex of "oak tree". I brake hard in a straight line for the turn in. Some people follow the contour of the track which gives you a smaller turn, but also results in really squirrelly braking. You choose. Shift down to 3rd. Turn in right, drive across the apex curb. After the apex, get hard on the gas for a couple of seconds, then brake hard and yank the car around (like an autocross, at least 90 degrees) toward the second apex of oak tree (at the tree itself). As soon as the car rotates get hard on the gas and start unwinding. Drive across the the apex curb, track out left and shift up. Check the guages, mirrors and shift up to 5th. Keep right. Point others by on the left. It's a long straight and it looks like you are going to launch into space, but stay on the gas. The braking zone is plenty long and well marked. At the entrance to "roller coaster" brake moderately, shift down to 4th and turn in left. You can carry a lot of speed through here. After the short straight brake hard and turn in right for the main part of the descent. The apex is very late near the end of the concrete curb on the right. Once the car settles turn in left, clip the apex at the mid-point of the curb and track out right. There is a short straight before the braking zone for "hog pen" turn. Brake moderately and turn in left to start the hog pen. Follow the clean track (all the rubber is where you DON'T want to be here) around to the right. Start squeezing on the power. Your initial steering input will bring you all the way through the hog pen with any additional input, just like the carousel at SP. Apply the power and have faith. The car will stick and you can be at full throttle about halfway through. Track out left. Check mirrors and point others by on the right. Drift right and shift up to 5th. Clip the apex of the main "straight" at the tower. The car will drift all the way left. Stay left all the into the braking zone.
