The Group

Tux.Org was formally incorporated in the District of Columbia in December 1999. We have been granted an IRS 501(c)(3) designation. This allows us to act as a non-profit educational group and accept tax-deductible donations from businesses and private individuals.

The corporation is part of the logical growth of the loose-knit tux.org group whose members are mainly the people involved in the Northern Virginia Linux User's Group and the Washington DC Linux User's Group. As time progresses, others will join and become involved in our mission.

What is our mission? Our mission is to provide education about openly developed and freely available software and support to the Linux community. We are not exclusively supporting Linux efforts, however it is one of our main goals as it makes a wonderful development environment for software.

How Can You Help?

Tux.Org accepts donations. These may come in the form of donated equipment, but we also gladly accept your tax-deductible monetary donations.

At this time, our IRS non-profit status has been approved, we can now accept donations that will be considered tax-deductible. If you are interested in providing a donation or have questions, please contact David Niemi (niemi at tux.org) or make a PayPal donation. Our email address used for donations on PayPal is donations@tux.org. For all donations over $5, we will issue a receipt, if full mailing address and contact information is provided.
