Configuring Pikachu, a KDE Laptop

Pikachu is a laptop computer that runs GNU/Linux and the K Desktop Environment (KDE).. Actually, Pikachu has gone through numerous incarnations, each separately documented:

Originally, Pikachu was a Toshiba Satellite Pro 430CDT, running Mandrake Linux 6.0.

I traded the Satellite for a Toshiba Portégé 320CT, and installed Mandrake Linux 6.1.

Then I replaced Mandrake Linux with Debian GNU/Linux, using the stable version 2.2 potato.

Finally, since the laptop isn't a production server, I traded some conservatism to get newer applications and lots of games by installing the Debian GNU/Linux testing version woody (soon to be Debian 3.0 stable).
