The Radio Shack Pro-95 Scanner
The Pro-95 is a great little handheld scanner that works just fine in
the DC Metro area. This page will document my efforts when using the Pro-95.
One of the first things you'll want to, regardless if you paid $149 or $249
for this radio, is to get it into a nice case to protect it from scratches
or falls. I tried looking for a reasonably priced (read: less than $10) case
for the unit. If you can believe it, neither the manufacturer, GRE, nor Radio
Shack have a case for this expensive trinket!
A Cheap Case for the Pro-95
So, I thought "Screw it. I'll make my own." And that is what i did. In about
an hour and using less than $1 in parts (4 brass leather studs - from Tandy
Leather) and some scrap leather, I came up with what I think is a nice case
that can also be used to protect the face of the unit if you insert the Pro-95
backwards. Here are a few shots showing the front, back, and backwards insertion
(i may update if i get the time):
One-page Guide to the Pro-95
Here's a one-page guide to the Pro-95. You'll need to use OpenOffice.org
or StarOffice to open, read, or print the guide (no Windows here!). Here's
the guide.
I hope this helps other Pro-95 users! I hope to enjoy using this radio
until most police, fire and municipal entities turn digital.
